Outsource CNC turning: drawing in, price indication out
Getting a turned part made usually means sending the drawing to a few shops, waiting days for quotes and then another call about the tolerances. With 1TurnAhead you upload the drawing or STEP file and see a price indication straight away. An engineer reviews it, then you get the final quote.
What we turn
Rotationally symmetric parts: shafts, bushings, pins, flanges, rings, nipples, fittings and spacers. Turning and facing, drilling and boring, grooving, internal and external threads, knurling and parting off. Wrench flats, keyways and cross holes on the turned part go in the same request.
The right machine for your part
Small, slender parts in series belong on a sliding-head lathe. Larger diameters, short runs and turned parts with milled features go to a CNC lathe with live tooling. You do not have to choose: we derive it from the dimensions, the operations and the quantity.
How the price is built
From your STEP we take diameters, lengths and the operations. From the PDF drawing we read material, tolerances, surface roughness, threads and the general tolerance (ISO 2768). From that we calculate bar stock, setups, setup time and machining time. Tight tolerances or anything we are unsure about go to an engineer first instead of quietly ending up in the price.
Materials and series
Stainless (including 304 and 316L), structural and quenched-and-tempered steel, aluminium, brass, titanium and engineering plastics. Material not listed? Put it on the drawing and we will sort it out. Setup time is spread over the quantity, so you see right away what a larger batch saves per part.
Frequently asked questions
- What does it cost to outsource turning?
- It depends on material, diameter and length, operations, tolerances and quantity. Upload your drawing and you see a price indication within seconds; the final quote follows after an engineer has reviewed it.
- Is a 2D drawing enough?
- For turned parts it often is: a PDF with dimensions, material and tolerances will do. Adding a STEP makes the price indication more accurate.
- Can I order a single prototype or a small batch?
- Yes. With small quantities the setup time weighs more per part; you see that directly in the price per quantity.
- Where are the parts made?
- At certified manufacturing partners in Europe. We handle partner selection, quality control and documentation.
